Our small-town Memorial Day Ceremony on Thursday, May 25, at Forest Parkway and Jamaica Avenue has been postponed because of the forecast for heavy rain.

It's unfortunate, for these ceremonies are so poignant and filled with personal statements by our residents and elected officials, as well as the great Franklin K. Lane ROTC Color Guard. I will keep you posted on a new date.

Mark your calendar for this Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation's "Wonderful Woodhaven Street Festival" on Sunday, October 1.

Friends of the QueensWay have released more information on their proposal in a study that costs $400,000 of taxpayer money. The feeling of local residents is that we have a beautiful park in Forest Park.

This project, if implemented, will cost millions and do nothing for Woodhaven. They will just pass through our community disrupting our quality of life.

The new LED lighting on Jamaica Avenue, funded by Borough President Melinda Katz and Councilman Eric Ulrich, is being installed. New lights are also being installed on residential streets, which will keep residents and shoppers safer.

With new bright lights and great police officers, we will feel much safer in our homes and on the streets. As of now, the 102nd Precinct is the fourth safest in NYC. Be proud Woodhaven.

Finally, our heartfelt prayers go to all those lost and their families in the cowardly terrorist act in Manchester, England.

May God bless our armed forces, may God bless our disabled veterans, may God bless our leaders, may God bless the NYPD and officers everywhere, and may God bless our America.
