American Legion Post 118 held their 98th annual Memorial Day Ceremony in their Garden of Remembrance on May 29.

The annual event favors a traditional community remembrance ceremony over a parade to honor those killed while fighting for the country.

This year’s ceremony featured a special tribute to Albert Matukonis, the Post 118 Member and World War II veteran who recently passed away at 100. Matukonis’ family received an honorary flag from the post.

According to local Woodhaven historian Ed Wendell, the ceremony was still well attended, despite the weather.
