The Center for the Integration and Advancement of New Americans (CIANA), a community-based organization serving immigrants located in Astoria, recently received funds under the New York State Senate Aid to Localities bill.
Secured by State Senator Jose Peralta, this funding enables us to continue our vital work helping immigrant families navigate the many language and cultural barriers they face in their daily lives, especially in today’s harsh anti-immigrant climate.
This stress is particularly difficult for immigrant youth who are torn between two cultures, searching for an identity and a sense of belonging.
For almost 10 years, we have been there for New York City immigrants providing free support services that include adult English language and civics classes, legal and immigration services, after-school programs for children, case management, and information and referral services.
Peralta has worked tirelessly with us to present Know Your Rights Workshops to concerned parents, as well as ensuring his constituents have access to our legal services and other programs.
We wish to express our gratitude to the senator for his invaluable support of CIANA and our community members.
